Kensington Introduces Three New Portable Locks for Laptops at CES

  • January 10, 2012
  • Topics: Locks

New locks provide businesses and individuals with convenient options to best fit their security needs

Kensington Computer Products Group, the worldwide leader in physical security products for the mobile professional, today introduced three new portable locks: the WordLock® Portable Combination Lock, the ClickSafe® Portable Combination Lock and the ClickSafe® Portable Keyed Lock. All three locks feature a unique self-coiling cable that stretches up to six feet to anchor to a desk or other fixed structure, yet shrinks down to just 3 inches making it easy to pack and carry anywhere.

Building on a 20-year heritage pioneering the development of physical security for computers, Kensington’s ClickSafe family provides a simpler, more effective locking experience. Engaged with an almost effortless one-click action, Kensington’s ClickSafe Portable Keyed lock has a corrosion-proof steel lockhead, along with a self-coiling cable, ideal for the mobilized worker.

For companies or individuals who prefer to use a combination lock instead of carrying a key, the WordLock Portable Combination Lock or ClickSafe Portable Combination Lock provides additional options to secure laptops and protect the valuable data residing on the devices. Kensington’s ClickSafe Portable Combination lock is secured with a four digit numerical combination code instead of a physical key. For those who find it easier to remember words instead of numbers, the Word Lock Portable Combination Lock allows individuals to set the code with four letter words (though Kensington has restricted the use of certain four letter words that may come to mind.) Both locks feature the self-coiling cable.

Mobile devices such as laptops contain more sensitive company data than ever before, putting organizations at risk for data breach if these devices are lost or stolen. As a new infographic from Kensington shows, the average cost of recovering from a single corporate data breach has almost doubled in five years, from $3.3 million dollars in 2005 to $7.2 million in 2010.

“As today’s workforce becomes increasingly mobile, it’s more important than ever that companies have policies and technologies in place to secure their devices,” says George Foot, Vice President of Marketing and Development at Kensington. “With these three new locks, we continue to grow our ClickSafe family to respond to these demands, offering physical security solutions to fit every user and business scenario.”
