Kensington Laptop Locking Station Honored with World Renowned iF DESIGN AWARD from Germany’s Oldest Independent Design Organization

Innovative Locking Station, Now Generally Available, Earns Kudos for Its Versatility and Strong Anti-Theft Protection for Thin Laptops without a Security Slot

Kensington®, a worldwide leader of desktop computing and mobility solutions for IT, business and home office professionals and The Professionals’ Choice, announced today that its recently announced Laptop Locking Station 2.0 received an iF DESIGN AWARD in the Computer Accessory category for its versatility and strong anti-theft protection for thin laptops without a security slot. The locking station made its debut at ShowStoppers @ CES 2017 on January 5, and is now generally available.

Each year, Germany’s oldest independent design organization, Hannover-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, orchestrates the iF DESIGN AWARD. Since 1953, the award has been known as an internationally recognized label for excellent design and serves as confirmation of the winning designers’ outstanding abilities. Kensington’s Laptop Locking Station 2.0 won over the 58-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world. More than 5,500 entries were submitted by 59 countries.

As computer technology continues to evolve, thin laptops have become more difficult to secure due to their sleek platforms that don’t allow for traditional security slots to engage a cable lock. The Kensington Laptop Locking Station 2.0 addresses this challenge – delivering optimal security and functionality in a low-profile solution ideal for the desktop environment. Adjustable security arms are located on each side of the locking station to accommodate thin laptops ranging from 11” to 15.6” in screen size. For initial installation, the user simply opens the laptop, then slides it between the arms into the station. Once the user adjusts the arms to the width of the device, they remove the laptop, and fix the arms into place for future use with that laptop. The laptop can then be placed quickly and easily into the locking station and locked into place using the included MicroSaver® 2.0 Keyed Lock that inserts into the industry-standard Kensington Security Slot™ located on the side of the locking station.

“A stolen laptop is not only expensive to replace, but can lead to a data breach that exposes private/confidential data,” said Rob Humphrey, Director of Global Product Management, Security, Kensington. “We’re thrilled to receive the iF DESIGN AWARD as it is a testament to the level of innovation we strive to bring with each new product design, and will continue to do so as we work to solve the security challenges our customers face each day.”
