Independently Tested and Verified Universal Docking

SD5200T Thunderbolt 3 Docking station

Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station

One of the greatest strengths of the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station is the fact that it supports both Windows and macOS laptops and connects them to monitors and peripheral devices using both Thunderbolt 3 and legacy communication protocols. Only Kensington has the resources and processes in place to thoroughly test our Docking Station during the development phase, and to continue to evaluate it with new devices as they are released.

You have every right to be sceptical of claims about “universal” anything. At Kensington, we are too. That is why we independently test and verify all supported devices before we release any product. That is how we have done it in the past, and that is what we did before we released the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station. As new laptops and other devices continue to be released, we test them to make sure they are compatible with the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station.

A dedicated group inside our testing team designed and executed a series of rigorous tests to make sure that every user with a Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station can take advantage of the tremendous speed and data throughput of Thunderbolt 3 protocol no matter what device they are using. Quality assurance engineers in the Kensington test department connected laptops from multiple vendors to the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station. Then, through an extensive series of manual and automated tests, Kensington checked the data-throughput speed of each device to make sure that it was able to achieve the maximum Thunderbolt 3 speed of 40 Mb/sec.

In addition, Kensington tested multiple high-definition monitor display configurations to verify that the Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station supports resolutions of 4096 x 2160 @ 60Hz on two 4K or one 5K Ultra High Definition external monitor display. No other provider tests with as many different brands and configurations of monitors, so Kensington customers can be certain that they are getting the best resolution their monitor can provide.

Kensington understands that our customers are power users across a wide breadth of industries who depend on an extensive range of external peripheral devices in order to be competitive and productive. The testing process includes a wide range of popular and best-in-class devices to make sure that they work at full efficiency with the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station. As key new devices are introduced, they are also tested to make sure that they are completely compatible with the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station.

To make sure that it can withstand the rough treatment that it will encounter in a typical work environment, the Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station is also subjected to thorough physical stress testing. Kensington does not expect our power users to treat our devices gently, so they undergo a series of rigorous tests to make sure that all cables, connectors, and parts are strong and sturdy and do not feel cheap or flimsy to a user.

Because it has been independently tested and verified, users can trust that a Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Universal Docking Station will work with every device that it supports every time they connect their laptop to it.
