New MiniSaver™ Mobile Lock Features Patented Cleat™ Locking Design for BYOD Security Peace-of-Mind

Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, today announced the MiniSaver Mobile Lock, the industry’s thinnest security lock system with the Kensington mini security slot technology – for use on ultra-thin mobile devices including Ultrabooks and tablets. Featuring a new patented Cleat locking design with an incomparably small attach point, the MiniSaver delivers professional-grade strength to resist pulls and tampering in a space that is as small as a micro USB connector or audio jack.

The new MiniSaver has been developed to address the increasing security needs of mobile-device users in the workplace. According to IDC, as many as 155 million smartphones and almost four million tablets will be leveraged for business purposes in 2014[1]. Further underscoring BYOD demand, as many as 53 percent of information workers today use three or more devices[2].

“Today’s increasingly mobile workforce is creating more demand than ever for ultra-thin devices and those devices need protection to prevent the mounting risk of theft and resulting data breaches,” said Judy Barker, Global Product Manager, Kensington. “The first-line-of-defense provided by physical security locks can stave off device theft and save businesses and their employees from the costly exposure of a data breach. With our revolutionary MiniSaver design, now protection is not only easy but sleek and convenient as well.”

The MiniSaver Mobile Lock is a highly versatile security solution for on-the-go professionals who use ultra-thin, lightweight devices and need protection in the office, or while working on the road and in public places. Key features include:

  • Cleat locking technology – featuring retracting “claws” which grab on to the internal sides of the security slot, the MiniSaver creates a strong connection between the device shell and the lock.
  • Off-body lock – using a groundbreaking design, the MiniSaver moves the main lock housing away from the device for improved flexibility which prevents interference with surrounding ports and jacks used for other accessories.
  • One-handed operation – A simple push-button action with a single hand can engage the lock securely inside the security slot.
  • Cut-resistant cable – An engineered carbon steel and protective plastic sheath give the MiniSaver the cut-resistance and theft-resistance of much thicker cables while delivering easier mobility.
  • Pivot and rotate cable – supporting a special hinge the MiniSaver creates great freedom of movement and eliminates awkward angles so that the key may be easily inserted.

“With the MiniSaver, Kensington is upping the game for physical security for even the thinnest of today’s mobile devices,” said Jan Solar, Worldwide Marketing and Portfolio Management, Lenovo. “By taking the company's decades of security lock expertise and applying it to address the new demands of today’s thin, lightweight devices, Kensington is changing the shape of secure mobile computing.”

Kensington is the market leader in locking-slot specifications, locking technology and physical device locks. With more than 20 million security locks sold and integrated into over one billion notebooks, projectors and tablets since 1990, Kensington is the de facto standard in security slot technology. For more than 20 years, Kensington has delivered security products to businesses, large and small, including leading retailers, telecommunications companies, health providers and global financial institutions — as well as the technology manufacturers that supply them.
