A: Yes, the dock works with computing devices (ex: laptops, tablets, 2-in-1’s, etc.) that have at least one available USB-A 3.0 or USB-C port.
A: For USB-C that support Power Delivery, yes. Please check the specs of your laptop or contact us and we can help you identify if your USB-C port supports Power Delivery. USB-A connection can only provide data and video but we do sell a power splitter that supports most 20V/60W laptops, see K38310 for more information.
A: Windows 10 or above, macOS 11 or above, Chrome OS 114 or above.
A: Once the DisplayLink driver is installed, this dock can display up to three external monitors at 4K @ 60Hz for MacBooks with a USB-C Alt mode port.
A: Up to four displays are supported on a Windows laptop, with plug-and-play support for dual displays via USB-C® Alt mode or expansion up to Quad 4K @ 60Hz via two DisplayLink® connections.
A: DisplayLink technology is a codec sent over a USB 3.0 Type-A connection that offers crisp text and graphics. This dock is a hybrid dock where video 1 and video 2 are plug-and-play; however, it is highly recommended to install* the DisplayLink Driver before using it to get the full benefits of up to triple displays for macOS and up to quad displays for Windows laptops.
A: Yes, please always update your laptop to the latest DisplayLink driver. You can download the DisplayLink driver here.
https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads.
A: When you use this dock to watch videos on streaming platforms with HDCP protection, please temporarily disable the DisplayLink driver from your taskbar. This workaround solution will allow you to watch the video using one external monitor that is connected to the MST video port, which can be either DP++ for video 1 or HDMI for video 2. When you are done streaming video that has HDCP protection, simply enable the DisplayLink driver, and then you can have up to four displays for Windows/Chrome and up to three displays for macOS on your workstations.
A: Yes, the dock is fully compatible with a laptop that has a Thunderbolt™ 3 or 4 port, however, it will not deliver the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt™ 3 or 4 (40Gbps), but rather deliver what the dock supports (Up to 10Gbps for this dock).
A: With this dock, the SD4790P, which leverages DisplayLink technology, even if your USB-C laptop doesn't support DisplayPort Alt Mode, you'll still receive video support using video 3 and video 4 ports. If your USB-C host device supports Power Delivery, then you can get up to 100W PD.
A: Yes, the front USB-C® 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps port supports fast charging for phones at 5V/1.5A.
A: Yes, they are plug-and-charge. You can use the ports, including the host port, to charge your devices once power is applied to the docking station, even without being connected to a laptop.
A: USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gbps).
A: Yes, however, please visit https://www.kensington.com/dockworks/ for a complete list of the docking stations that are compatible with DockWorks.
A: This dock is equipped with a secure screw-lock connector for a consistent and reliable connection between the docking station and the laptop.
A: Yes, the plastic material used in the SD4790P docking station is composed of 73% post-consumer recycled content (PCR), aimed at reducing our environmental impact.
