Innovative Productivity-Enhancing iPad Docking Station Wins Award for High Design Quality in Communications Technology Category
SAN MATEO, Calif. – April 13, 2021 – Kensington®, the worldwide leader of desktop computing and mobility solutions for IT, business, and home office professionals and The Professionals’ Choice, today announced the StudioDock™ has won the 2021 Red Dot Design Award in the Communication Technology category. The innovative StudioDock™ transforms an iPad into a fully-functional desktop workstation and provides wireless fast-charging for the Apple ecosystem, greatly enhancing the functionality and usability of the iPad in home and office environments.
StudioDock™ is designed to enhance the functionality and expand the connectivity options of iPad Pro and iPad Air, while minimizing clutter making it a stylish, contemporary addition to the desktop. Magnetic attachment of the iPad to StudioDock™, integrated Qi wireless iPhone and AirPod charging, and rear-mounted connectors for USB, HDMI and Ethernet ports, minimize or eliminate unsightly cables for a clean look that complements the surrounding environment.
The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back to 1955 and recognizes the best products created each year. Roughly 50 jurors, who formed an international panel of experts from a wide variety of industry sectors, were guided in their evaluation of the products based on the motto, “in search of good design and innovation.” In a process that spanned several days, the jurors scrutinized each product using assessment criteria that included quality, ergonomics and longevity.
“The winners of the 2021 Red Dot Award: Product Design were particularly impressive this year,” explained Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot. “The design of their products is excellent, in terms of both the aesthetic and the functionality. It’s not easy to prevail in such a strong field of competitors and win over our jury. Consequently, I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success.”
"This is a great accomplishment for Kensington because we competed against some of the best designers and companies spanning from small outfits to large corporations like Apple, Google, Samsung, Logitech, Belkin and others worldwide,” said Erik Campbell, Senior Lead, Industrial Designer, Kensington. “Kensington's continued efforts to design and innovate at the highest level is proven here. Awards like Red Dot bring excitement and awareness to our brand, strengthening our position in the technology industry and design community."
Kensington’s StudioDock™ and the rest of this year’s award winners will be included and celebrated in the online exhibition on the Red Dot website beginning on June 21, 2021, the start of Red Dot Design Week. StudioDock™ will showcased in the exhibition, “Design on Stage,” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, beginning on June 22, 2021, where visitors can experience the quality of the design in a space that features contemporary design solutions and historical industrial architecture. Available in August 2021, the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2021/2022 will provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art and trends in product design.
A CES 2021 Innovations Award Honoree and recipient of eight Best of CES 2021 awards, the Plug and Play Kensington StudioDock™ requires no software installation. StudioDock™ for iPad Pro 12.9” (K34030WW) and iPad Pro 11” and iPad Air (K34031WW) are available now through the Kensington Store.
