1981 was a year of new concepts. The first woman nominated to the Supreme Court, music television launched with MTV, Lady Diana married Prince Charles and Kensington emerged as a company, launching the System Saver, the product that propelled Kensington into the marketplace.

Kensington is formed as a manufacturer of high-quality computer peripherals. Our first product, "System Saver" a combined cooling fan/surge protector for the Apple II; becomes an instant hit with 200,000 units sold.

1983

MasterPiece Power Control Center is introduced 7. Surge protected outlets, power up or down with one convenient master switch.

1986

Kensington Turbo Mouse introduced for the Macintosh, Macintosh™ Plus, Apple® lle and Apple llc.

Kensington’s first Sales Force is hired.

PassProof - security systems for Mac’s

1992

The Security Slot is born. Kensington invents and commercializes the MicroSaver® security-cable-&-lock device designed to secure notebooks using the Kensington security slot.

1992

The new version of Expert Mouse 4.0 is the first trackball to completely integrate hardware and software for total customer control.

1995

Silicon Sports is acquired and the product line is added to the Kensington offering.

1996

Mouse-in-a-Box ships to give users an innovative, plug-and-play mouse.

1997

New products include QuickTrieve, SmartSockets, SlimScreen, Desktop MicroSaver, Orbit, Wrist Pillow and more.

Gravis joins Kensington

1999

Flylight is launched and is a huge hit with business travelers worldwide.

2000

Kensington launches the Orbit ADB/USB MAC and the ComboSaver™ combination lock using the MicroSaver security cable.

New Turbo Mouse Pro Wireless Trackball is introduced into the market, as well as the Slim MicroSaver® security cable -- a re-engineered, sleeker version of the MicroSaver cable designed for use on the slimmest new notebooks. Flylight sales reached $1 million worldwide.
